When my husband and I first started our family, I always envisioned a space that parents and kids alike could enjoy. I feel it's incredibly important for my kids to feel included in my design vision of our home. But at the same time, I think it's more important for my husband and I not to feel our home is a shrine to the kids. We also deserve a warm and inviting space to decompress in.
When we set out to move a few months back, we really wanted a home that had a second living room. Previously we were a family of five living in a 1500 square foot home. And we made it work, but there were toys buckets everywhere in our living room. The kids "stuff" just started to overrun the house. We purged and purged and purged some more...but in the end, we just needed more space. Hence, where we are now...In home we truly LOVE. The separation of the living room and playroom has been the best decision as a family we have made.
I originally planned on doing this as one blog post. But as I started taking photos, I quickly realized it was a two part series. The living space AND the playroom (which you'll see later in the week).
I hope you enjoy looking into our kid friendly home space. I thoroughly enjoyed making it our own.
As a mom of three boys, you can bet that my life revolves around superheros and Star Wars. So I wanted to try and incorporate a few of these touches throughout our living space. You'll notice little nods to Star Wars all throughout our first floor.
Cheap wooden puzzles that I picked up from the Dollar Spot years ago work as a perfect kid friendly accent.
BB-8 even made his appearance on our bookshelves.
Little owls were a fun, kid friendly touch I added throughout my design process.
I picked up these adorable lego Star Wars prints on Etsy. I have several hanging/mixed in random displays throughout the house.
Salt and pepper shakers for the dark side.
